Creams & Lotions

We had some lotion making basics arrive today:

Cire De Lanol, which is an anionic emulsifier. This means it is compatible with many ingredients that might otherwise pose a conflict due to ionic or cationic charges. Anionic charged emulsifier/ingredients can ‘swing both ways‘! What makes Cire De Lanol especially unique is that when formulated with about 15% or less light oils (sunflower, olive, camellia, hazelnut, etc) this emulsifier creates a somewhat ‘frothy’, or mousse-like cream emulsion. And it holds up on the shelf, it does not deflate! Next to BTMS (25 and 50 - however both these are cationic, or positive charged) the Cire De Lanol is my favorite emulsifier. I prefer it to Emulsifying Wax NF also.

Also, basic white beeswax pastilles and regular triple pressed vegetable based stearic acid are back in stock. Beeswax is great for making solid perfumes and also for firming up your lip gloss or lip balms.  This is the bleached, deodorized beeswax pastilles that make it easy to weigh and do not conflict with your fragrance or flavors.

Stearic Acid is used to raise the melt point for your container candles (important if you are using the 4 oz metal tins - stearic helps prevent a dangerous liquid container of hot wax after only 30 mins of a burning!), increase the hardness of cold process soap formulas, and even harden up Melt & Pour soap bases. Stearic Acid is also a key ingredient for many lotions and creams, as it gives the thick viscosity you associate with a ‘rich’ textured product.
