Silversword at Haleakala, HI

Next year Southern Soapers is debuting a new fragrance called “Haleakala Sunrise“. Imagine a journey guided by tropical tradewinds. It is named after an amazing trip my husband & I took to Hawaii several years ago. We trekked up to Haleakala mountain on Maui and watched the sunrise. We arrived at one of the rare times when the endangered (and scarce) Silverswords were in the final stages of their bloom season. You can still see how magnificent the flowering must have been, even though the petals on each appendage are starting to ‘turn’. The Silversword is a relative to the common, giant sunflower and also to the Jeruselum artichoke. When in flower, each of those reddish pom pom’s were mini purple sunflower blooms.

The top of mount Haleakala is exactly like the photo shows: Arid, desert, barren, and rocky. Quite a landscape adjustment from the lush tropical greenery below at sea level. Haleakala is also the home to several scientific research organization, as this is one of the best telescopic locations for space in the world. If you would like to know more about Haleakala, please click this link to info on the the US National Park. Haleakala is a protected US National Park, one you should try to visit if you ever get the opportunity.
